Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

Expectant mothers often experience concern and anxiety when it comes to the health of their unborn child.

Traditional biochemical screening methods, such as blood tests and ultrasounds, provide an estimation of risk groups but can produce both false negative and false positive results. This uncertainty may lead to unnecessary worry and stress during an already emotionally challenging time.

SILK Medical offers Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), an advanced diagnostic tool that accurately detects fetal chromosomal abnormalities in the early stages of pregnancy.

With an accuracy rate exceeding 99%, NIPT is a safe and reliable method for verifying the genetic health of an unborn child.

By analyzing fragments of fetal DNA circulating in the mother’s blood, NIPT detects conditions such as trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), and sex chromosome abnormalities. It also screens for chromosomal microdeletions.

NIPT is suitable for single and multiple pregnancies, as well as pregnancies conceived using donor oocytes or through surrogacy.

Indications for

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing

  • Advanced Maternal and Paternal Age
  • High Risk of Fetal Chromosomal Abnormalities
  • Parental Genetic Diseases
  • Prior Pregnancies with Fetal Genetic Abnormalities

Advised for women over 35 and men over 42, as the advanced age of the prospective parents can increase the risk of genetic material breakages in germ cells.

If the results of biochemical screening or ultrasound indicate an elevated risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus, NIPT can provide a more accurate assessment.

If either parent has been diagnosed with a genetic disease, NIPT can help determine if the condition has been passed on to the fetus.

If genetic abnormalities were diagnosed in a previous pregnancy, NIPT can provide valuable information for the current pregnancy.

In addition to these indications, NIPT can be performed at the request of the expectant mother, even in the absence of specific risk factors. The emotional well-being of the mother during pregnancy is of utmost importance, and NIPT can help relieve anxiety by providing reassurance about the genetic health of the fetus.
